Where we walked in 2015



February 13th   FLADBURY 2015 

Start:   Jubilee Bridge  Charlton.                                                                                                               

Length: 5 miles mostly pastoral farmland with no noticeable hills.

Walk goes past Charlton,  touches the outskirts of Evesham and returns via Cropthorne.

Meet in carpark in Droitwich  

Length: 5 Easy miles on canal paths which are suitable for winter weather.

March 13th   CALLOW END  

Meet at Callow End Village Hall.  Easy 4.5 miles, mostly flat with one gentle hill

March 25th    DYMOCK

  A five and a half mile undulating  walk in daffodil country.  Could be muddy in parts.

We start this half (Part 5)  by meeting at Temple Guiting 

Length: 6.5 miles. Moderate walking with a steep ascent at the beginning to give views over Winchcombe and Hailes. Then easier countryside and a rise through Guiting Woods to arrive back at the cars in Temple Guiting.

Meet at at the National Trust carpark in Snowshill 

Length: 5 miles  easy walking to pass through tranquil villages, training gallops and elevated views. Leader: Audrey Newstead


Meet in lay-by on the B4084 just after the New Inn in Cropthorne.

Length: 4.5 miles. Gently uphill to Elmley Castle, and return via Netherton.  Includes two short stretches of the old Salt Route from Droitwich to Lechlade.  3 stiles.

Meet at Red Marley D'Abitot village hall carpark. (200 yards south of the church)

Length: 5.5 miles. An undulating walk in the Leadon valley and woods, with some slopes and one steeper climb.

Meet by, but NOT in the railway station carpark.  

Length: 6 miles.  Circular walk to Bretforton and back, fairly flat with some stiles, and could be muddy depending on the weather.

Meet Throckmorton Church and park on land in front of church.

Length: 3.5 miles.  Fairly flat with a couple of stiles.

Meet at Denzil and Jenny's house 31 Cherry Orchard, Pershore

Length: 5 miles. Via Pershore Bridges along the Avon and through Tiddesley Wood.  Back down Holloway. No stiles.

July 17th    WORCESTER WOODS Meet at the Countryside Centre entrance (by the toilets) - next to County Hall on Wildwood Drive.   Length: 4 miles.  A stroll, nearly all on footpaths, through some of Worcester's woods and a climb up Tolladine Hill for the view.   Leader:  Jenny Brumhead

August 14th  UPTON ON SEVERN  

Meet at the Pepperpot in Upton on Severn.

Length: 6 miles.  Across meadows to Kinnersley, round to Severn Stoke, then follow the River Severn back to Upton.  Fairly flat with some stiles.

Meet at the village carpark in Stanton

Length: 4 moderate miles, beginning in a tranquil valley before transforming into elevated views, ending with a descent through lovely villages at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment.

Meet Back Lane carpark in Winchcombe (parking charge £1 all day). 

Length: 6 easy miles, through the Stanway Estate before entering Hailes, passing the medieval church and Hailes Abbey, to come back down to finish in Winchcombe.

October 16th  SEVERN STOKE 

Meet at Severn Stoke Church carpark (back of the Rose and Crown, no parking charges)

Length: 6 miles. Along the river to Upton then by river plains to Kinnersley. Mainly flat but a bit rough in places, with a hill towards the end. Mud and muck should be minimal, depends on the weather.  Stiles six or seven.Leaders:  Ray Lewis  and Tricia Baker

October 30th  WORCESTER  

Meet: Waverley Street , Diglis, Worcester . Park by the children’s playground and miniature railway.

Length: 4 miles, exploring Worcester City Centre by paths and bridges, mostly flat with one very short, sharp hill. Leader:  Jenny Brumhead,

November 13th  INKBERROW  

Meet: Inkberrow Church Car Park – Drive down the lane by the Olde Bull, pass the church on right, and turn right into the church car park. Length: 6 miles, gently undulating walk around Inkberrow and the pretty village of Abbots Morton .

November 27th   DEFFORD

 Meet: Defford Village Hall carpark (short distance past the church, on the left).  

Length: 4 miles.  A gentle, undulating walk to Besford and back.

December 11th  A WALK TO STRATFORD (not from Pershore!)  

Meet: Milcote Picnic Area (Greenway)  

Length: 6.5 miles. A walk to Stratford along the old railway and River Avon with a break by the theatre. If it has been very wet, the river can be avoided.

January 1st  PINVIN 

Meet:  Pinvin Village Hall (opp. the school) TBC

Length: 3.5 miles.  No hills, gentle, first footing wander to Peopleton and back. Possible mud as it is wintertime!  Leader:  Rosemary Davis

January 15th ANNUAL LUNCH

  Meet:  The Yew Tree, Conderton.  Please park carefully alongside the Manor House wall.  Limited parking, so it would help to have full cars.

Length: 4 miles, easy walking on lower paths (no striding up the hill!)

2nd January 2009.  -  Start Pershore Bridge car park. GR952451. 4 miles, to Pensham Hill, Pensham, R.H.S.College and Wick. Mostly flat, one stile. For a longer walk, an extra 2 miles, meet at 31 Cherry Orchard

16th January.  -  Start at Norton Parish Hall. GR887497. 6 miles round Pirton Pools, a folly and maybe a geocache. Return over Kempsey Common via Hatfield. Could be muddy, a few stiles.                                      Leader Ian Wood.

30th January.  -  Post Christmas lunch walk. Plans being finalised, details and menu will be sent out later.

13th March. Start in Winchcombe, parking by the library, GR022284. 5 miles via Hailes Abbey, some stiles and hilly in places. Will be muddy.                                                                                                                   Leader Ray Lewis

 27th March. Park at Bakers Arms, Broad Campden on left of car park, away from pub entrance, GR158379. 3 miles to Chipping Campden across fields with some mud. Bring your own coffee or bags to put over your boots and have coffee in one of several coffee houses or pubs. Return to Bakers Arms for lunch at 12.30 p.m., the menu will be circulated during the first week in March.                                                                              Leader Joy Dixon -Smith

10th April. Good Friday -- No walk.

24th April. Start at Elmley Castle picnic site, GR984410.  3.5 miles through Kersoe and Netherton, mainly flat with a few stiles.                                                                                                                  Leaders Alan and Margaret Smith

8th May. Start at Stanton village car park, GR068342. A strenuous 6 miles walk. Uphill from Stanton, past Shenberrow Hill to above Stanway, then down steeply into Stanway and across the fields back to Stanton.

22nd May. Start at Elmley Castle picnic site, GR984411. 4.5 miles to Cropthorne and return via Netherton. Easy walking, no hills and few stiles.                                                                                                     Leader Denis Wager

 5th June. Start at the car park on the roundabout on the A4440 at Powick Hams, GR834523. 5 miles, to Upper Wick, then across the golf course to some interesting back streets of St. Johns and back along the river. 7/8 stiles and fairly flat.                                                                                                                                   Leader Gareth Harries

 19th June. Start from Old Street car park, Upton upon Severn, GR851403. Cross Upton bridge, turn left, follow main road (Old Street) through town. Car park is on right opposite the church at the far end of town. Out along the river and back across the fields. 4 miles mainly level, 4 stiles.                                                         Leaders Alan and Margaret Smith

 3rd July. Start from the green at Rous Lench, GR014533. Park considerately on or near the green. 5 miles with some road walking skirting Abberton, Radford, Abbots Morton and Rous Lench. An easy walk with several stiles. Leader Claire Oliver

 17th July. Start Leckhampton Hill car park. GR951179. An easy 2.5 mile walk across Leckhampton Hill with views over Cheltenham. Almost level with no stiles.                                                                            Leader Mike Taylor

31st July. Start from The New Inn, Noutard’s Green, about 2.5 miles N. on the B4196 from Holt Heath GR799664. Use second car park behind brick wall - free on weekdays.  6 miles with approx 4 stiles, via Glasshampton Monastery, Astley Church, Astley Burf and Shrawley woodsWe will be having a lunch break at Astley Burf -- bring a packed lunch.  O.S Landranger 150.                                                                                                          Leader Gareth Harries

14th August. Start from Cherry Orchard, Pershore, between Cherry Orchard House and the school, GR950465. Parking on Cherry Orchard if required. Through the wetlands nature reserve and along by the river. 28th August. Start from Holly Bush car park, on north side of A438, GR759369. 6.5 miles to Herefordshire Beacon and British Camp with strenuous climbs up Midsummer, Hangman’s and Millennium Hills. 11th September. Start from large car park at Next in Worcester Rd, Evesham (opposite Tesco), GR035447.  3.5 mile fairly easy walk along river Avon to Oxstalls farm, Blaney’s lane to Greenhill and site of Battle of Evesham and back over Greenhill.                                                                                                                        Leader Sue Allard

25th September. Start from South Littleton, GR076463. 6 miles through the Littletons to Cleeve Prior and back by the river. Mostly flat with a few stiles.                                                                                 Leader Heather Greenhalgh

9th October. Start from St Eadburgha Church, Broadway, GR097363, 5.5 miles, fairly long uphill walk to Broadway Tower and back through Broadway, a few stiles.                                                                              Leader Denis Wager

23rd October. Start from Knapp/Papermill nature reserve car park, GR 752522.  Walk is through nature reserve, a stretch of Worcestershire Way and Storridge Common. 4 Miles, 2 Stiles, could be muddy, stunning views, some hills, none very steep.                                                                                                                            Leader Les Beard

 6th November. Pub Lunch Walk. Start from The Crown, Peopleton, GR 938504. 5 miles, flat with some stiles and could be muddy.  Those wishing to have lunch in The Crown after the walk will be asked to make their choices from the menu before we start the walk.                                                                                                      Leader Rosemary Davis

20th November. Start from 31 Cherry Orchard, Pershore. GR 949463. 4 miles to Drakes Broughton via Gig Bridge and return via Walcot Lane. No stiles.                                                                       Leaders Denzil and Jenny Devos

4th December. Start from the crossroads at Broadheath Common. GR 803559.  The route passes Elgar’s birthplace and then goes through Cotheridge. 5.5 miles, mostly flat pastoral and arable land, some stiles and a ditch. 18th December. Start from roadside approx halfway between Overbury and Conderton. GR 961372. Roadside parking. 3.5 miles around the side of Bredon Hill to Grafton and return at a higher level.
