January 11th 2019  No walk - Annual Lunch at the Boot Inn Flyford Flavell


January 25th 2019                  TEWKESBURY

Meet:                Long stay car park, Station Road. See the map in the attached PDF

Length:                4 miles, plus a 20 minute stop at Tewkesbury Abbey.  No stiles but a bit muddy by the river.

February 8th                   GRAFTON FLYFORD

Meet:                   Grafton Flyford Church

Map:                     Exp 204, GR 963557

Length:                5.5 miles, 10 stiles.  Fairly flat woodlands and sheep pastures, passing through tiny, quiet villages.

February 22nd                             AROUND FERNHILL HEATH

Meet:                Claines Church, Claines, Lane Worcester. WR3 7 RN

Map:                  Exp 204, GR 852589

Length:                           5 miles through Fernhill Heath returning by the Droitwich Canal following footpaths and quiet roads. Not many stiles could be muddy in places. Bring a snack and drink for the mid walk break. Will be an option to have a carvery lunch at The Raven after the walk.

March 8th                      THE LENCHES

MEET                 Church Lench church carpark. Overflow parking in adjacent field.

LENGTH            A picturesque 5 mile walk from Church Lench, undulating but not too hilly, and taking in some of the Wychavon Way.

March 22nd                  ELMLEY CASTLE

MEET                 Park considerately in Main Street, between the school and the church.

LENGTH            5 miles with a little road walking but mainly fields, taking in Bricklehampton,  Little Comberton , and Netherton.  The Queen Elizabeth is good for food, as we have already discovered.

April 5th                                        ECKINGTON AND BREDON 

MEET                 Eckington Bridge Car Park

LENGTH            6 miles, passing Birlingham, Nafford Lock, Woolas Hall and returning along the river to Eckington and the cars.  Easy walking with one gradual climb.

April 19th                                     HILL, NEAR THROCKMORTON 

 

MEET                               Take road to Throckmorton from the A44 Worcester/Evesham. Just after the right turn to Hill there is a sharp bend where there is space to neatly park several cars.

LENGTH                          4.5 miles, starting by walking to Hill, a small hamlet, we will find lovely Worcestershire countryside with woodland and three lakes with wildfowl and butterflies aplenty

May 3rd                         MALVERN

MEET                 British Camp carpark (fee £4.50)

LENGTH            5 miles to Castlemorton Common via woodlands and fields.

May 17th         BREDON HILL 

MEET                 Great Comberton village (road parking near the telephone box)

MAP                   Exp 190  GR 955423

LENGTH            5.5 mile approx. From Great Comberton along the hill to Woollas Hall, then rising up to the top of the escarpment (this will be a reasonably steep gradient). Here we turn east along the escarpment towards the tower and beyond taking in great views before descending via Even Hill towards Bricklehampton. Towards the end of the descent we turn left back to Gt Comberton.

May 31st                        PERSHORE

MEET                 At entrance to the Market.  Park at Wetlands off King George’s Way

LENGTH            5.5 miles walk from Pershore, to Drakes  Broughton, Besford Bridge and Tiddesley Wood. Expect some mud!

June 14th           TRENCH WOOD, NEAR DUNHAMPSTEAD

Meet:                Trench Wood car park

Map:                   Exp 204, GR 929588

Length:                 5 miles.  Through Trench Wood to cross the railway at Dunhampstead, where there is an Inn for lunch for later, if required.  Canal, fields and woods complete the walk. Generally flat with some stiles, a couple a bit wonky. Excellent views.

June 28th             COTSWOLD SPECIAL - GREAT RISSINGTON AND BOURTON ON THE WATER

Meet:                The Lamb Inn, Great Rissington. 

                           Take the A44 and then A424 to Stow on the Wold. After Stow, take the left fork to Burford at the traffic lights, still the A424, and after about a mile take the second right to the Rissingtons. Follow signs to The Lamb Inn and park either at the Lamb Inn or nearby on the road.  Toilets available at the pub, also orders for lunch.

Length:                           6 miles, From the church with a very poignant story, we go over fields to Bourton on the Water where we walk beside several fishing lakes.  Back past the old mill to lunch at the pub.

July 12th            SHRAWLEY WOODS

Meet:                The New Inn, Shrawley (car parking £3.00 payable at the pub, redeemable against drinks at the end of the walk). Currently, the pub is unable to serve food.

Length:                           5 miles.  The walk is through part of Shrawley Woods, some open countryside and along the Severn.  Fairly flat, but there is a small stream to cross on stepping stones.

July 26th            COACH RAMBLE TO  TINTERN AND THE WYE VALLEY


Aug 9th              TEWKESBURY

Meet:                Picnic site at Lower Loade, just south of Tewkesbury Abbey, off the road to Gloucester.

Length:                           5.5 miles to  Odda’s Chapel at Deerhurst and back via the site of the Battle of Tewkesbury.  There is one hill.

Aug 23rd            UPTON ON SEVERN

Meet:                Park in layby (was the old road) just out of town on the A4104

Length:                           5 miles. A varied walk in this interesting area

Meet                  Worcester Countryside Centre, Wildwood Drive

Length               3.5 miles, through woods, hardly any roads.  Only one definite hill giving views to May Hill and the Lickeys.

October 4th   CHURCH LENCH

 

Meet:  Church Lench Club, drive straight on past the church, the Club is 100 yds on the left.

Length:  4.5 miles.  A mostly flat walk taking in three of the five Lench villages,  Church Lench,  Ab Lench and Sheriffs Lench.

October 18th   DUMBLETON

 

Meet:   Park in village near the church.

Length:  5 miles.  Pretty village, pasture, may be some cattle.

November 1st  BROUGHTON HACKETT

Meet:  Large layby on A422 just past the March Hare.

Length:  5.5 miles, gentle field walking

November 15th CHIPPING CAMPDEN

Meet:  Park considerately in the village and meet at the Market Hall in the centre of the High Street

Length:  4.5 miles, moderate ups and downs, stunning views if weather is kind

November 29th   BREDON HILL

Meet:  At Kemerton Church

Length:   4.5 miles.  To avoid mud, we will go up the hill and pass the Elephant Stone.  Good paths and not too steep.

December 13th                           LONGLEY GREEN

Meet:                              The Nelson Inn, Longley Green WR6 5EF. 

Turn off the A4103 at Bank Hotel, Bransford, 3.5 miles west of Worcester. Follow lanes via Leigh and Alfrick to Longley Green.

Length:              5 miles.  : A lovely walk up the Suckley Hills through woodland, and then across farmland

Length:              3.5 miles gentle amble to get the body working again after the festivities
